Whenever a new product is launched in the market, it must pass various safety tests to satisfy both the expectations of public as well as government. The similar is the situation with technology.
The manufacturers of latest technology know the importance of safety. The field of artificial intelligence is no different. The term ‘artificial intelligence’ was first coined at the campus of Dartmouth college during the summer of 1956. In those days no one ever expected that artificial intelligence would one day actually impact our day-to-day lives.
We all recognise the famous J.A.R.V.I.S. from the Iron Man film. Well that is a perfect example of artificial intelligence. From IBM Watson to SIRI to autonomous weapons, Artificial Intelligence is the underlying technology.
Artificial Intelligence has changed our lives completely. From the way we think to the way we act, everything has changed. Artificial Intelligencehas given birth to a lot of subdomains which are ruling the technological market such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Deep learning, computer vision, text mining, Information Extraction, gaming and so on. All the subdomains have huge growth potential in the coming years. Artificial Intelligence when integrated with big data has a lot of scope in future and it will shape the job market in 2018. The employees working in these domains have a bright future as these technologies are being sold like hot cakes.
However, as artificial intelligence is still in developing stage, there are a lot of failed experiments which have taken place in the past years. We all remember the famous Facebook failed experiment in the field of Artificial Intelligence which took place in the year 2017. Facebook’s team was forced to shut down their ongoing experiment of artificial intelligence when two chatbots started chatting with each other in a language only they understood. The chatbots invented their own language and started interacting with each other. The language was not possible for the humans to understand.
As a result, the team had to immediately shut down their on-going artificial Intelligence experiment.
Also, the Tesla Car accident which took place when the vehicle mistook a white truck for a clear sky, is a clear example which shows artificial intelligence still needs a lot of improvement.
Microsoft’s chatbot, Tay, also shows how important it is to distinguish between positive and negative behaviour of the surrounding for Artificial Intelligence.
Companies invest in Artificial Intelligence to create experiences that raises the expectations of the consumer. But the companies should keep the safety aspect of Artificial Intelligence in mind before proceeding as bad A.I. can not only damage the reputation of the company, it might also harm the consumer.
We all want to be safe. Safety and Security are the two most crucial aspects in the life of any human being. In today’s world, everything is getting automated. So, our dependency on machines is increasing day by day. When we are using machines for out daily activities, we don’t want the machines to harm us.
There is no doubt that artificial intelligence shall dominate the technological industry and will play an integral role in our daily lives. However, Industries should also not shy away from the challenges in implementing artificial intelligence and need to take care of the impact of A.I. but by putting security first.
